Yikes…we are back!
Posted @ 04:48pm | In HisReach News by Garrett | 2 Comments

Let me tell you…the last 7 days have been a wreck!  We are so sorry for all for all of the downtime and hope that you didn’t think we were gone.  It’s been a lot of trouble with our server changes and then miscommunication about payments, etc.

All that said, we are back and should be fully functional.  Please let us know if there is anything else you find that isn’t working as you would expect.

We have finally completed all of the server changes. It was a real uphill battle, but we have finished it finally. Apparently quite a few of you noticed. We apologize for the issues, but it was necessary to make these server changes for our community.

If you see any lingering issues, please let us know!

I’m sorry to say that there will be some downtime tonight for HisReach as we work on our server configuration and do some hardware adjustments.  Downtime will begin at 11PM EST and will hopefully last for only 8 hours.  We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you wake up to great things tomorrow morning.

Blurb Standards Of Use
Posted @ 01:21pm | In HisReach News by Garrett | No Comments

Lately there have been some issues with posted content in blurbs. We encourage you all to use blurbs as a way to keep friend updated about changes to your profile, groups, etc. In fact, it’s fine if you want to post content like quizzes and questionnaires. However, we have to ask that you please think first about what you are posting to blurbs before you post them. Blurbs can be seen by all of your friends and at times they can (and have been) found to be offensive.

So what is considered offensive? Well, to list a few:

  1. Name-calling
  2. Use of abbreviations referring to bad words or phrases
  3. Questions that are overly personal in nature

If we find that you are posting or re-posting inappropriate blurbs, we will be forced to close your HisReach account. All we ask is that you think about the content that you put on HisReach before you do it. We are trying to keep HisReach a clean place to hang out online and your cooperation will only make HisReach better.

Music Profiles
Posted @ 08:36pm | In HisReach News, Site Updates by Garrett | No Comments

I’m sure many of you have noticed, we now have music profiles on HisReach. We are still doing some work to get them perfect, so be patient while we work out all of the kinks. Just a few things to note about music profiles:

  1. You must own the rights to the music in order to post songs to HisReach. If you don’t and we find out, your music profile and member profile will be permanently deleted. In short, No…you can’t post your favorite songs to a music profile…even if you bought the CDs.
  2. If you don’t see your favorite band on HisReach, we need your help. We are working to get the coolest artists on HisReach, but it is an involved process. How can you help? Send an email to the band, leave messages on their MySpace, post on their websites. Tell them that you are on HisReach and you want them to be too. Fans are the top influencers on how bands reach their fans.
  3. If you see something that isn’t working how you might have expected or if something justplain doesn’t work. Please let us know in the Suggestion Box on your home page.

Thanks for all the suggestions and support. We hope you enjoy!

The Joys Of Automated Advertisement
Posted @ 02:36pm | In HisReach News, Site Updates by Garrett | 4 Comments

So some of you may have noticed tat over the last few days, we started showing Amazon.com ads on HisReach. Amazon is obviously a really cool company because they offer such a wide range of different products. So our thought at HisReach was that you might be interested in the wide variety of items they have to offer.

We decided to use a system from Amazon called Omakase which basically automatically determines what types of products to display based on the content of our website. Well, it turns out that 1) when Amazon offers everything under the sun for sale…some of it is not appropriate (to say the least), and 2) we remembered we have had limited luck in the past with automated ad generation.

Needless to say, we have discontinued our affiliates program with Amazon and have gone back to only serving ads that have been pre-approved by the HisReach team. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you experienced or any inappropriate material you may have seen on the HisReach website. We are working very hard to make sure that HisReach is the cleanest, most secure site on the web.

If there is ever anything that you see on HisReach that you disapprove of for any reason, please let us know and we will work to resolve the issue immediately.
