With last week being Thanksgiving, and Christmas right around the bend, God has put on my heart a desire to help those less fortunate. I’ve been thinking of ways in which HisReach can make a difference, and I’ve found an interesting way we can contribute. First, let me tell you a little bit about the organization we have chosen.
It wasn’t an easy decision since we were pretty particular in how we wanted to donate money. We were seeking an organization whose mission was to spread the word of God while aiding those in need. As I looked through a sizable list of non-profit organizations, CRISTA Ministries stood out as one that fit our criteria. CRISTA Ministries, founded in 1949, helps in delivering real life solutions that demonstrate the transforming love and hope found in Jesus Christ to the people they serve. The organization runs ten different ministries focused in the following areas: broadcast, education, senior living, humanitarian relief and development, veterinary missions, job search, camps and conferences, adoption, alternative education, and women’s ministries. Each of these ministries sounded like very interesting causes that would benefit from our support, but I was particularly drawn to the category of ‘humanitarian relief and development’. So I dug a bit deeper. CRISTA Ministries’ relief and development ministry is called World Concern, and focuses on aid in Africa, Asia, and South America. Along with providing services, training, and supplies to those in need, World Concern is using relationships as a means to spread the love of God and bring people to Christ. I will let you dig deeper if you are interested; it’s actually a very impressive organization achieving great things across the globe.
Here is where HisReach comes into play. We want to stand apart from other communities like MySpace and Facebook in every possible way. Besides what HisReach offers its members, we want to exemplify the very things we promote. HisReach is more than just a “place for friends”. HisReach is a home for Christians to become involved, to love one another, to connect in the community, to challenge each other in our walks with God. By setting an example of a giving heart this holiday season, HisReach will be making a donation to a cause.
HisReach will donate $1 to CRISTA Ministries’ World Concern Ministry for every new member who signs up for an account between Thanksgiving (Nov 23) and the end of the year (Dec 31). We will present our donation to CRISTA Ministries at the beginning of next year, and of course inform both new and existing members of how we did. In addition, we encourage you to read about CRISTA Ministries and ask God how you can be of help this season.
Not only will this donation make HisReach all the more better by having new friends, but you too are supporting a ministry without a
penny from your pocket. Consider taking an extra second to explain to a friend why HisReach is different and why you are a member…a personal testimony is invaluable! And we’d appreciate it.
